Rockmelon and mint green smoothie – gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free, clean, vegan, raw and paleo friendly.


Last weekend I camped at Wingello state forest in the Southerlan Highlands between Goulburn and Sydney. My first time since a young girl, my desire to go again seemed just that until my seasoned camping friends invited me on one of their monthly camping trips.

We left at 4 am which I didn’t mind as it brought back childhood memories of hiking trips and holidays where mum packed us into the car at 3 am. I loved sleeping in the back seat while dad drove and I always woke up just in time to see the sunrise.

Our first mission was exploring the caves at Bungonia. Two of the caves were closed due to a current bat virus so we entered the two smaller bat free caves. After a short hike we made our way to Wingello and set up camp in the midst of a circle of pine trees.

First port of call – disconnect from technology and live in the moment, purely, and simply.

We cooked dinner, made friends with some curious cows and watched the sun go down.

As the fire roared we listened to eerie tales of the paranormal on ipod whilst we laid on our backs and stargazed. I felt completely relaxed and happy.

Now I’ve caught the camping bug I plan to go again in a month and hope to post some camping and hike friendly snacks so you can still nourish your body whilst away from civilisation.

Today’s recipe is a simple one using only 4 ingredients. If you’re sick of banana based green smoothies then this will make a nice change with sweet, juicy rockmelon, body loving alkaline greens and a hit of fresh mint. Make sure you add some ice cubes to really cool you down and if your smoothie isn’t sweet enough, add some honey or sweetener of choice.

Rockmelon and mint green smoothie

Yield: Serves 1


  • 2 cups cubed rockmelon
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 celery stick
  • Small handful baby spinach leaves
  • Handful of ice cubes
  • Optional: Honey (or sweetener of choice)


  1. Blitz all ingredients together in a blender. Sweeten to taste if need be.
  2. Best served ice cold.
